Disney: Misrepresenting Legend for the Sake of Laziness or Angst (Series)

In the world of film and popularity, Disney is without a doubt a powerhouse. In the world of animation Disney is a giant, as much as other companies attempt to catch up, financially Disney usually fares better at the box office; however, where Disney may be the financial hub in the world of animation, their ability to create new material is limited. Many Disney films widely focus on adaptations of famous works, some of which include:  The Sword in the Stone (based on Le Morte d' Arthur (By Thomas Malory)and The Sword in the Stone (T.H. White)), The Little Mermaid (based on Hans Christian Anderson's novel of the same name), Mulan (The Ballad of Hua Mulan) and Sleeping beauty (Sleeping beauty by Henry Mevnell Rheam). These films are not based on stories created within the studio. Instead, they are drawing from many different time periods and countries; this series of posts aims to shed light on where Disney has altered the source material in a way which misrepresents characters or cultures in ways which differ from the source. These posts will be uploaded every Sunday and focus on one Disney adaptation, the first in the series will be The Sword in the Stone.
